Thrombosis Flashcards

1
Q

Q

What is an infarction

What are the 2 types

A

Ischemic necrosis via vascular occlusion via

  • thrombus
  • embolus

Septic/blood
-due to bacterial contamination

White/red
-due to arterial occlusion into solid tissue

Q

What are the 5 main complications of MI and why

A
Arrhythmias-conduction :(
HF-myocyte death

Q

What is an embolism

Name the 5 main types

A

Abnormal material impacting in the vessel, occluding flow

  • thrombus/atheroma
  • fat (from bone fractures)
  • septic (bacteria containing blood clots)
  • air
  • tumour/cells

Q

How are DVTs linked to PEs

A

DVT embolism => PE

  • infarction not extensive due to many pulmonary collaterals
  • may lead to pleuritic pain on inspiration
