Zhen Ren Yang Zang Tang

“True man’s decoction to nourish organs”

A

Ingredients:
Ying Su Ke (15g), Rou Gui (3g), He Zi (12g), Rou Dou Kou (6g), Ren Shen (9g), Bai Zhu (9g), Dang Gui (6g), Bai Shao (15g), Mu Xiang (4.5g), Zhi Gan Cao (6g)
Functions:
Astringes the intestines, stops diarrhea, warms MJ, and tonifies deficiency
Indications:
Chronic diarrhea or dysentery syndrome
Chronic, unremitting diarrhea or dysentery to the point of incontinence; in severe cases, prolapsed rectum; abdominal pain, cramping around the navel, reduced appetite, and tenesmus; soreness of the lower back, and lack of strength in the legs.
Tongue: pale, white coating
Pulse: slow, thin
Clinical applications:
1. Used for SP & KD xu cold accompanied with chronic diarrhea or dysentery.
2. Used for chronic colitis, chronic dysentery, and ulcerative colitis.
Modifications:
1. For severe SP & KD yang xu = add Pao Fu ZI
2. For prolapsed rectum = add Sheng Ma, Huang Zi
C/C:
Damp-heat dysentery; it should avoid cold, raw, fishy and greasy food.

Si Shen Wan

“4 miracle pill”

A

Ingredients:
Bu Gu Zhi (12g), Ruo Dou Kou (6g), Wu Wei Zi (6g), Wu ZHu Yu (6g), Sheng Jiang (12g), Da Zao (5pcs)
Function:
Warms and tonifies SP & KD, binds up intestines, and stops diarrhea.
Indications:
Early-morning diarrhea syndrome (Wu Geng Xie, “cock-crow” diarrhea)
Diarrhea occurs daily before sunrise, or chronic diarrhea with no appetites, undigested food, abdominal pain, cold extremities, fatigue and lethargy.
Tongue: pale, thin white coating.
Pulse: Submerged, slow and forceless
Clinical applications:
1. Used for daybreak diarrhea due to waning mingmen fire that is unable to warm the earth. Key symptom is diarrhea occurring daily before sunrise.
2. Used for chronic colitis, allergic rhinitis, and intestines TB.
C/C:
Damp-heat in LJ
