Huang Tu Tang

“Yellow earth decoction”

A

Ingredients:
Zao Xin Tu (30g), Bai Zhu (9g), Fu Zi (Zhi) (9g), Sheng Di (9g), E Jiao (9g), Huang Qin (9g), Gan Cao (9g)
Functions:
Warms the yang, strengthens SP, nourishes blood, stop bleeding
Indications:
Bloody stools due to (SP) yang deficiency syndrome
Bleeding follows the defecation, vomiting or spitting up of blood, nosebleeds, or abdominal uterine bleeding or pale-red blood accompanied by cold extremities, wane complexion, general fatigue and lack of taste with no thirst
Tongue: pale, white coating
Pulse: submerged, thin, and forceless
Clinical applications:
1. used for blood in the stool or abdominal uterine bleeding due to SP yang deficiency
2. Currently used for chronic hemorrhagic gastritis, peptic ulcer, and functional uterine bleeding o chronic colitis.
Modifications:
Severe hemorrhaging -> add San Qi, Bai Ji
Severe qi xu -> add Ren Shen

Jiao Ai Tang

A

Functions:
E Jiao (6g), Ai Ye (9g), Dang Gui (9g), Bai Shao (12g), Sheng Di Huang (15g), Chuan Xiong (6g), Gan Cao (6g)
Functions:
Nourishes blood, stops bleeding, regulates menstruation and calms fetus
Indication:
Chong and Ren Channels deficiency and injury with Beng Lou syndrome
Abdominal pain with uterine bleeding, excessive menstruation, menstruation with constant spotting, postpartum bleeding, or bleeding during pregnancy, the blood is pale and thin without clots, and is accompanied by weakness and soreness of lower back and dull complexion
Tongue: pale, thin, white coating
Pulse: thin, frail
Clinical applications:
1. used for condition of blood stasis that tends toward cold and is especially useful in treating irregular menstruation
2. used for functional uterine bleeding, threatened miscarriage, postpartum uterine bleeding or menopausal bleeding.
C/C:
Abnormal uterine bleeding due to heat
