If both ELACs (elevator aileron computers) fail, do we lose control of roll and pitch?
NO… The SEC (spoiler elevator computers) will take over the pitch and roll functions.
We have two FAC (flight augmentation computers). If both FACs fail, can we still control the rudder?
Yes… The rudder can be mechanically controlled and hydraulically actuated by the rudder pedals.
You are at cruise with the FIRST officer’s autopilot connected. The Captain becomes incapacitated and his leg falls against the sidestick pushing it full left. Will the aircraft roll?
Yes… The autopilot will disconnect and the aircraft will roll.
What should the First Officer do to regain control of the aircraft in this case?
Press the Priority Switch on the sidestick. Holding the switch for more than 40 seconds will latch out the other sidestick.
After the First Officer has taken priority, what indications would there be on the glare shield if the Captain’s knee is still on the siestick?
A red arrow will illuminate in front of the pilot losing authority, in this case the Captain. An aural “Priority Right” message is also activated. Additionally, a green FO light will illuminate on the glare shield in front of the FO indicating that the Captains sidestick is not in the neutral position.
The Captain regains consciousness, can he regain control of his sidestick?
Yes… by momentarily pushing either priority switch.
You are in an A320. Your autopilot is engaged, and you are in a descent. If you put the speed brake handle in the FULL position, how much speed brake extension do you actually get?
The A320 is limited to 1/2 speed brakes with an autopilot engaged.
What flap configuration is achieved by selecting Flaps 1 on the ground?
Flaps 1+F. Slats and flaps are extended for takeoff. Selecting Flaps 1 airborne, from the up position, will only extend the slats.
After takeoff using FLAPS 1, if you forget to retract the flaps, what happens to the flaps as you accelerate?
The flaps will automatically retract to configuration 0 at 210 knots through the automatic flap retraction system (ARS)
