A/E Flashcards
(6 cards)
A/E of ACE inhibitors
CAPTOPRIL
C- Cough . Due to Increase bradykinin
Appearance of intractable cough- discountinue drug
A- angioedema swelling in nose ,lip, mouth, throat ,larynx- airway obstruction - use adrenaline antihistamine
P- proteinuria- rarely drug discontinue
T- teratogenic - growth retardation ,foetal hypotension,renal failure,neonatal death C/I in pregnancy
HypOtension - after 1st dose. marked in pt. With CHF
NeutroPenia- rare
Rash
Itching
Loss of taste sensation ( dysgeusia)
Hyperkalaemia
A/E of ARBs
•Better tolerated than ACE since no cough
•Headache
•Hypotension
•Rash
•Teratogenic
•Hyperkalaemia in pt. with renal failure and on k+ sparring diuretics
A/E of Diuretics
Hypokalemia
Hyperglycaemia( ↓insulin)
Hyperuricemia
Hyper- lipidemia
- calcemia
Impotence
Decrease libido
A/E of CCBs
•Headache
•Flushing
•Ankle edema
•Palpitations and reflex tachycardia ( prevent by using sustained release or beta#)
•Verapamil and diltiazem -minimal tachycardia due greater cardiac depressing effect . Avoid in pt. with cardiac dysfunction

Beta#
Sexual dysfunction and nightmare for n males
Prolong use- ↑bp ,mi,angina
Alpha#
First dose phenomenon
After administration postural hypotension and syncopal attack
;. Initial dose. small. And given at bed time
A/E of vasodilators
•Reflex tachycardia
•Na+ and h2o retention →ischemia and CCF
Hydralazine Additional •-hypotension,angina ,mi,coronary steal phenomenon, immunologic rx SLE
