Anaesthesia
A
Without sensation.

General anaesthesia
A
Whole body without sensation = unconsciousnesses. Can still respond to noxious stimulation (eg sympathetic activation, tachycardia etc) but will not be aware of it/sense pain.

Regional anaesthesia
A
Lack of sensation from from a region of the body. This is done by medically manipulate the sensory nn. of that area. Subject is still conscious. Can be used during general anaesthesia.

Sedation
A
A state of reduced excitement.

Anxiolysis
A
A state of reduced anxiety.

Analgesia
A
Insensibility to pain, however still conscious.

Narcosis
A
State of stupor/unconsciousness.

A
Artificially induced state of passivity.
