Q

Risk of darker and lighter Fitzpatrick regarding to not using cooling mechanism?

A

Darker: Chromophore target might attract epidermal surface tissue, cause epidermal heat accumulation and tissue damage

Lighter: Risk not high as darker Fitzpatrick due to low levels of melanin. cooling provide comfort

Q

Various forms of Cooling Systems?

A
  • Cold air convection: cold air applied on tissue
  • Contact cooling: cooling ages plates
  • Dynamic cryogen cooling: cooling release in burst onto skin
  • Manual gel packs: Precooled before treatment

Q

Benefits of cooling mechanisms?

A
  • Reduce risk of epidermal heat accumulation and unwanted photo-thermolytic reaction
  • Patients comfort
  • Reduce risk of side effects (darker Fitzpatrick)
  • Enhance clinical endpoints: also reduce erythema and oedema
