what is failure to function adequately?
when someone is unable to complete day to day tasks.

-it fails to take into account individual differences, so it is subjective.
-it cannot explain cultural differences.
-abnormality doesn’t always mean dysfunction.

what is statistical infrequency?
characteristics that are statistically rare/ uncommon are abnormal.

-unusual characteristics can be positive, like high IQ.
