what is rational choice/ideology

A

an idea or belief to achieve social control
right from wrong
your conscience guides you to reach a solution or follow laws and rules
for example making a choice to steel food for your family or steel alcohol for your addiction.

what is Tradition

A

may be your own traditions, customs or norms that ensure you conform to the rules.
sometimes religion or culture or upbringing that ensures you follow the laws and rules.

what is internalisation of social rules and morality

A

working out what is the right thing to do and therefore knowing what is the right thing to do and therefore knowing what is right or wrong based upon social values.
for example not cheating in an exam.

external forms of social control

A

external measures persuade or compel members of society to conform to the rules for example teachers set detentions for failure to complete work, ensuring you dont do it again.

what is coercion

A

physical or non-violent
physical coercion may take form of bodily injury, imprisonment and death penalty.
non-violent coercion consists of a strike, boycott and non-cooperation

what is fear of punishment

A

the use of punishment as a threat to stop people from offending (deterrence)
individual deterrence: punishment imposed on offenders in order to prevent them from committing further crime. for example suspended sentence where there is more serious consequences if you re offend
general deterrence is the fear of punishment that prevents others from committing similar crimes for example imprisonment, showing the public what might happen to them if they commit this crime
