Q

what is deterrence

A

individual deterrence ensures the offender does not reoffend
suspended sentence is an example because imprisonment will only make them want to re offend.
general deterrence aims to prevent society from committing crime, giving an offender imprisonment it will hopefully prevent people from committing similar crimes.
