  1. Count the cash in front of the person paying.
  2. Check bills to ensure they are not counterfeit.
  3. Give a receipt (3 copies: payer, office, court).
  4. Deposit the cash (next business day).
  5. Write a check for the amount.
  6. Send the check and paperwork to the court.

Prepayments: Who Can Pay?

A

Anyone can prepay the offense, even someone who is not the defendant.

Prepayments: Juvenile Requirements

A
  1. Must be approved by the court first.
  2. Juvenile must have the relevant paperwork with them.
  3. Parent/Guardian must also sign, unless the juvenile is legally emancipated.

Prepayments: Hunting/Fishing Without License

A

Defendant pays the fine PLUS the cost of the license they failed to obtain. This does NOT grant them the license.

IRS Form 8300?

A

Must be filled out when accepting cash payments over $10,000, OR for cash payments related to drug, money laundering, or gambling offenses.

Purge Bonds
Magistrates CANNOT accept purge bonds (payments for back child support). These are often identifiable by unusual, non-rounded amounts
