Q

Litmus is

A

A mixture of pigments extracted from lichen.
Shows different colours in acidic and alkaline conditions, and can be used to distinguish between acidic and alkaline.

16
Q

Universal indicator/pH paper

A

A mixture of several indicators
Shows a range of different colours depending on pH value of substance

17
Q

Clear dropper with distilled water after transferring substance…

A

…prevent contamination leading to inaccurate results.

18
Q

pH meter

A

Probe connected to digital display.
Accurate to 2 dp

19
Q

pH meter and data logger

A

Monitor change in pH value of solutionC

20
Q

Calibrate

A

Rinse probe with distilled water thoroughly.

21
Q

pH meter’s advantages

A

Accuracy, reusable, can measuring pH value of liquid with dark colour

22
Q

pH meter’s disadvantages

A

Expensive, inconvenient, have to calibrated before and cleaned after use.

23
Q

Neutralisation

A

Acid and alkaline react with each other when mixed, changing pH value of solution. This chemical reaction is neutralisation

24
Q

Title of neutralisation graph

A

Change in pH value of solution against volume of xxx added

25
Equivalent point
The point where acid completely neutralises the alkali as shown by colour change of indicator.
26
Reactant is
Substances that take part in chemical reaction
27
Product is
Substances form as a result to chemical reaction
28
acid and metal
acid + metal --> salt + hydrogen
29
acid and carbonate
acid + carbonate --> salt + carbon dioxide + water
