ACLS Flashcards
(20 cards)
Claudia Allen
Created the sixth levels
ACLS
Now on the fifth edition
LACLS
Large version of ACLS an should only be used in cases of impaired hand function or low visual acuity
Three types of stitches
Running stitch (easy) Whip stitch (Moderate) Cordoven stitch (Hard)
There are six levels
Automatic Postural Manual Goal oriented Exploratory Planned
Characteristics of each level
Cognitive level Activity demand Usable task environment Just right Challenge Attention span Sensory cues
Two errors in the test
Twisted stitch
Behind the back stitch
2 and 3 range
Needs supervision
Level 1- Automatic actions
Attention span
Structured activity
Usable task environmentt
- seconds
- one action or direction repeated
- body
Responding more to internal stimuli
24 hour care required
e.g.;Person coming out of coma= 0.8
Person coming out of coma
-0.8 Frustrated Confused Agitated Low/high tone
Level 2- Postural actions
Attention span
Activity structure
Usable task environment
- minutes
- Simple repeated physical guidance may be needed
- ROM
Level 2 Postural actions
1.8 can do stand/pivot transfer
2.2 can walk (still unsafe )
2.0-2.4 can feed (very messy)
can wonder
24 hr care required
One direction/action and repeated
Responds well to proprioceptive input
Level 3 Manual Actions
Attention span
Structured activity
Usable task Environment
Up to half an hour but needs lots of reminders
Simple repeated task, one action or direction at a time and repeat
Arms reach using whole body
Level 3 Manual actions
Increased Balance/ ROM
Can start doing groups
Better at feeding
Can do some basic ADLs
24 hr care suggested need for long term repetitive training for ADL’s
Responds well to tactile skills and still proprioception
Level 4 Goal directed actions
Attention span
Structured activity
Usable task environment
Hours
Simple quick task with tangible end product
Visual field with cues, will not see what is out of sight
Level 4 Goal directed actions
More independent with ADL’s but still need help with IADL’s
Responds well to visual cues
4.6 can live alone
24 hr care suggested to remove clutter/dangerous objects for safety reason
Recalls one step at a time- steps can be initiated in short sequence
Level 5 Exploratory actions
Attention span
Structured Activity
Usable task environment
Weeks at a time for various tasks
Activity that allows for variation yet allows results to be easily seen/concrete
Task environment
Level 5 Exploratory actions
Need to be careful for safety factors- hot wires, heat (temperature)
Learning via all senses
New learning is occurring here
Deficits still in planning/anticipation of events
Recalls multiple steps in a sequence
Trial/error - experimental problem solving
Independent with all ADLs/ needs help with various IADLs
Level 6 Planned actions
Attention span
Structured activity
Usable task environment
Past/future
One that allows variation in the selection and planning of steps
Potential task environment
Level 6 Planned actions
Can follow written and verbal instructions
Abstract thinking- can plan, problem solve, anticipate future events
Cues can be symbolic
Recalls unlimited steps
Conduct complex task
Well organized thought processes
