Q

Small intestine

A
  • food entering here is only partially digested
  • carbs and protein digestion has begun but little fat digestion
  • by the time food reaches the end of the small intestine, digestion is complete and beset all nutrient absorption has occurred
  • the macrovilli of the small intestine cells contain brush boarder enzymes
  • these break disaccharides into single sugars and complete protein digestion
  • intestinal juice is relatively enzyme poor
  • however, food is deluged with digestive enzymes from pancreatic juice from the pancreas
