Q

How was a motion sensor used in Activity 4?

A

To determine position and time, a pulse echoes back from reflective object to measure its position at a specific time.

Q

Explain the difference between distance and displacement; and between speed and velocity.

A

Displacement = final location- initial location, so if you start at home go to Walmart then back home your displacement is zero, your distance however would be how far you traveled so the distance to walmart and back. Velocity is change in position over time, but includes direction (vector) speed is a scalar and has no direction.

Q

What did we do in activity 4?

A

The motion sensor was used to produce a position verses time graph and a velocity verses time graph.

Q

What is mechanics?

A

Motion that is governed by external forces. Divided in two categories: kinematics and dynamics.

Q

What is kinematics?

A

Only takes into account the motion of an object without the effects an external force may have had on them.
