Adaptations Flashcards
(6 cards)
What are some adaptations of a leaf ?
The stoma
Palisade layer
Spongy Mesophyll
Thin
Waxy cuticle
Veins
What is the purpose of the palisade layer?
It is packed with chloroplasts which contain chlorophyll. It is on the surface of the leaf and is the main site of photosynthesis.
What is the purpose of the stomata?
They are tiny openings in the plant. Air enters the plant through these openings. They close during not weather to reduce water loss.
How is a thin leaf helpful to photosynthesis?
A thin leaf leads to easier diffusion. It allows gas to diffuse in and out of the leaf easily.
What is the purpose of the waxy cuticle?
It is a waxy protective layer on the outer surface of the leaf. It helps minimise water loss without blocking the light.
What is the chlorophyll?
Chlorophyll is found in the chloroplasts. It is the green pigment in plants and absorbs sunlight.
