ADI Transitional Question Bank Flashcards
(16 cards)
What services may an Aerodrome controller at Oxford provide to aircraft, when ADC is not combined with other positions?
Aerodrome Service
Basic Service
Alerting Service
What is the transition altitude for the Oxford aerodrome?
6000ft
What are the physical dimensions of Runway 01/09?
1526m x 30m
What is the TORA and LDA for Runway 01 and Runway 19?
Runway 01 1442m TORA - 1319m LDA
Runway 19 1383m TORA - 1319 LDA
What is the aerodrome elevation
263ft
What are the dimensions of the oxford ATZ?
2nm radius centred on runway 01/19, upper limit 2000ft AGL. 2263ft QNH
What are the standard IFR departure instructions (turn and level) for Oxford?
Departures from runway 01:
LT 360, climb to 2500ft
Departures from runway 19:
RT 315, climb to 2500ft
For departures runway 19 whose initial point enroute is WEZCO or SILVA :
LT on track WEZCO/SILVA, climb to 2500ft
What are the standard VFR departure instructions at Oxford?
“Squawk 4520, depart VFR not above altitude 2000ft until further cleared by radar”
What are the criteria for multiple line ups?
Line up instructions can be issued to more than one aircraft at different points on the same runway or crossing runways provided that:
During daylight
Aircraft on the same frequency
All aircraft continual visible to the controller
Pilots are advised of the number of aircraft ahead in the departure sequence and the position/runway from which these aircraft will depart
The physical characteristics of the runway do not render the preceding aircraft in the departure sequence invisible to succeeding aircraft on the same runway
Which aircraft require a radar release and for how long is it valid and what other caveats apply with regard to time and order of departure?
IFR departures
VFR jet and twin turbo prop aircraft
A release from APP/APS is valid for 3 minutes
When released, the IFR departure shall be the next aircraft airborne unless otherwise co-ordinated with APP/APS
What is understood by the term “preferential runway”?
The preferential runway at Oxford is runway 19, and will be selected as the runway in use with up to a 5kt tailwind. See UKAIP AD2. EGTK-2-20 Paragraph 6(c) - Use of runway.
How many parking stands are there and what restrictions (size) apply to which stands?
19 numbered stands on the school line (south end of the Main Apron). The stands and taxi-lanes are suitable for aircraft with a maximum wingspan 12m (PA34 size) and are allocated in accordance with AIN 2021/02, available on Centrik
When can an aircraft be issued with a “Land after” clearance?
What is the RTF to be used?
When aircraft are using the same runway, a landing aircraft may be permitted to touch down before a preceding landing aircraft which has landed is clear of the runway provided that:
(1) the runway is long enough to allow safe separation between the two aircraft and there is no evidence to indicate that braking may be adversely affected;
(2) it is during daylight hours;
(3) the preceding landing aircraft is not required to backtrack in order to vacate the runway;
(4) the controller is satisfied that the landing aircraft will be able to see the preceding aircraft which has landed, clearly and continuously, until it has vacated the runway; and
(5) the pilot of the following aircraft is warned.
Responsibility for ensuring adequate separation rests with the pilot of the following aircraft.
RTF to be used is “Land after the (aircraft type))”
At what range should an IFR aircraft receive a landing clearance?
ADC should aim to offer a clearance to IFR aircraft by 2 DME.
Which helipads are to be used for the landing/parking of SK76 helicopters?
Helipads 1, 2, 3, 10 and 11
Under what weather conditions should AWS and low visibility procedures be commenced at Oxford?
In deteriorating weather conditions, the Aerodrome ATCO will initiate LVPs. There are two stages which may be initiated dependant on the visibility.
Airfield weather safeguarding vis 1000m or less and forecast to decrease to 550m or less.
Low visibility procedures. Vis 550m or less.
