Adrenaline and Thyroxine Flashcards
What is adrenaline
A hormone released by the adrenal glands in times of stress and is responsible for the flight or fight response
What is negative feedback
A type of control where the body responds to an increase or decrease in a factor by returning it ti the optimum level
What is thyroxine
- A hormone released by the thyroid gland
- It regulates the basal metabolic rate
- Released in response to thyroid stimulating hormone
• controls growth and development
What is basal metabolic rate
The speed at which chemical reactions in the body occur while the body is resting
What is the effect of adrenaline
• Increased heart and breathing rate- delivered oxygen and glucose to the body
• Dilation of pupils
• Increased mental awareness
How is the release if Thyroxine controlled by negative feedback
Levels of thyroxine falls-detected by brain
Pituitary gland releases more TSH
More thyroxine is produced
Then returned to normal
