Adrenergic I Flashcards
(12 cards)
The effect of alpha 2 adrenergic receptors on blood vessels is:
Constrict
The effect of alpha 1 adrenergic receptors on blood vessels, uterus, and bronchi is:
Constriction/contraction
The effect of beta 1 adrenergic receptor activation is:
Increase HR,Contractility, and conduction velocity
the effect of Beta 2 adrenergic receptors on blood vessels and the uterus is:
Dilation/relaxation
Phenylephrine Brand name: Class: Action: Indications (3):
Brand name: Neosynephrine
Class: Alpha adrenergic receptor agonist (mostly a1, some a2)
Actions: Vaso/Venoconstriction by contracting smooth muscle.
Indications:
1. Nasal Decongestant
2. Mydriatic (dilates pupils for eye exam)
3. Increase BP in vasodilated state
Isoproterenol Brand name: Class: Actions: May cause:
Brand: Isuprel
Class: Synthetic B1 and B2 adrenergic receptor agonist
Action/indication: Potent B1/B2 stimulation -> Increase contractility, Increase HR, increase conduction. Will also cause vasodilation!
May cause tachyarrhythmias
Albuterol Brand name: Class: Action: Indications (2): Side effects:
Brand: Ventolin
Class: Synthetic selective B2 receptor agonist (little B1 stimulation at low doses)
Actions: Potent B2 agonist for smooth muscle in airways
Indications: asthma, COPD,
Mirabegron
Brand:
Actions:
Indications:
Brand name Myrbetriq
Class: Synthetic selecctive B3 adrenergic receptor agonist
Action: Stimulate B3 receptors of smooth muscle of bladder, reducing DETRUSOR muscle tone
Indications: Overactive bladder, urinary urgency, increases bladder capacity, does not have sx associated with anticholinergics.
Epinephrine Class: PD: PK: Tox: Interactions: consider: indication/dose: monitor:
Class: direct acting adrenergic agonist (a1 a2 B1 B2), vassopressor, cardiac stimulant, bronchodilator, tx for anaphylaxis, adjunct to local anesthesia.
PD: Major action = stimulate peripheral a1 adrenoreceptors producing vaso and venoconstriction; stimulates B1 -> tachycardia + contractility; stimulates B2 -> bronchodilation.
PK: IV is immediate, IM varies, SC 5-15 min, inhale 1-5 min. Opthalmic topical; metabolized by COMT and RENAL EXCRETION.
Tox: excessive vasocontriction, HTN, Hemoraggic stroke, angina, arrythmias.
Interactions: risk of HTN in pts on PROPRANALOL
Considerations: Used severe anaphylaxis.
Dose: 0.1-0.5 mg SC or IM; for cardiac arrest push 1-5 mg IV. for infusion 1-4mcg/min.
Monitor: BP HR rythm, infusion site, extravasation
What 2 compounds metabolize Norepinephrine?
MAO and COMT
monoamine oxidase
Catecholamine o-methyltransferase
Dopamine Brand: Class: Action: Indications:
Brand name: Intropin
Class: agonist at DA, B1, a1 receptors
Action: is a DA agonist at low doses, a B1 agonist at medium doses, and a1 agonist at high doses.
Indications: SHOCK in ICU; can produce increased contractility (B1) vasoconstriction (a1) and improved mesenteric/renal erfusion (DA).
Ephedrine:
Action:
Indication:
Action - indirectly acts to release NE from adrenergic nerve endings. Has some direcct agonism at receptors.
Inidcations: Used in OR to fix mild hypotension; nasal congestion
