All Drugs - Class & Indication ONLY Flashcards
(61 cards)
Propranolol (Inderal)
Non-specific (1&2) Beta adrenorecceptor blocker.
Use for anti-HTN, antiarrhythmic, primary and secondary MI prevention, anti-angina
Varenicline
Partial Nicotinic a2-a4 receptor agonist
Use for smoking cessation
Dopamine
Adrenergic and Dopaminergic agonist (inotrope)
Use for shock and CHF, will preserve kidney perfusion.
Stimulates DA receptors to INCREASE RENAL BLOOD FLOW
Epiephrine
Alpha 1 &2 and Beta 1 &2 adrenergic agonist
Use for Shock, anaphylaxis, or local anesthesia
Acetylcholine
Cholinergic agonist
Use for Glaucoma
Clonidine
Selective alpha adrenergic 2 agonist
ACTS CENTRALLY on a2 receptors to downregulate sympathetic tone.
Use to treat HTN or prevent migraine
Isoprotenerol
Beta 1+2 agonist
Use for bradycardia
Phenylephrine
Alpha 1 adrenergic agonist
Use to vaso/veno constrict for nasal decongestion, mydraisis, or to increase BP in dilated state.
Ephedrine
Indirect adrenergic, stimulates NE release
Use for mild hypotension during surgery or nasal congestion
Dobutamine
B1 agonist
Use to increase contractility MORE THAN HR in CHF where you don’t want tachycardia
Albuterol
B2 agonist
Use to bronchodilate for asthma or COPD
Phentolamine
non selective (1 +2) alpha adrenergic BLOCKER Use to decrease preload and afterload in HTN crisis
Pseudophedrine
Indirect adrenergic, causes release of NE and has some a and B agonism.
Use for nasal/sinus decongestant
Amphetamine
Inndirect adrenergic, stimulates NE, dopamine, and serotonin release.
Use in ADHD
Tyramine
Indirect adrenergic; releases NE and dopamine
Present in packaged foods -> Metabolized by MAO
Know that it can cause a hypertensive crisis in pateints on MAO inhibitors (an antidepressant)
Cocaine
Indirect adrenergic, BLOCKS REUPTAKE OF NE, Epi, DA
Use for anesthesia w local vasoconstriction: nose bleed or corneal surgery
Tamsulosin
Selecetive alpha 1 blocker
Preferentially blocks in prostate.
Use to relax bladder, prostate, ureter to improve urine flow (BPH)..
Phenoxybenzamine
Irreversible alpha blocker
Use for to reduce peripheral vasospasm
Prazosin (Minipress)
Selective alpha 1 adrenoreceptor blocker
Use to black vaso/venoconstriction for anti-HTN and Benign Prostate Hypoplasia
Norepinephrine
Alpha1&2, and weak Beta1 agonist
Use for SHOCK
Atenolol (Tenormin, Metoprolol)
Specific Beta 1 blocker.
Use to lower BP by reducing CO and less RAA activation.
LESS EFFECTIVE FOR STROKE PREVENTION
Carvedilol (Coreg)
Mixed alpha beta BLOCKER, (Like labetalol)
USE more for CHF
Labetalol (Trandate)
Mixed alpha beta blocker
Use for treating HTN and CHF. May also be appropriate with pheochromocytoma.
Bethanachol
Muscurinic Agonist
Use for neurogenic Ileus, urine retention (MAKES YOU SHIT AND PISS)
