32 bits for IPv4
128 bits for IPv6
Solves the Address Exhaustion Problem
2
Q
Configuration: IPv4 vs IPv6
A
Manual or DHCP for IPv4
Autoconfiguration for IPv6
3
Q
NAT Requirements : IPv4 vs IPv6
A
Network Address Translation: all host don’t need a global unique address
Yes for IPv4
No for IPv6
4
Q
Broadcasting: IPv4 vs IPv6
A
IPv4: Yes, uses broadcasting to reach all nodes on a network
IPv6: No, uses multicast or anycast
5
Q
Security: IPv4 vs IPv6
A
IPv4: Optional
IPv6: IPsec is mandatory
6
Q
Mobile Routing
A
Enables a host to maintain ongoing connections while moving between networks if IP address changes due to location
7
Q
Steps of Mobile Routing
A
- Registration: Mobile Node moves to Foreign network, gets Care of Address, then that is registered with Home Agent
- Tunneling: Packets sent to Mobile Node are intercepted by Home Agent, forwarded to Care of Address
- Decapsulation: Foreign agent gets packet, removes header, then delivers to Mobile Node
- Reverse Path: Mobile Node sends packets to corresponding node
