A
- Aeneas tells Dido the story of the fall of Troy
- speaks of Sinon and the wooden horse
- The spirit of Hector appearing to him in a dream telling him to leave the city and take the Penates with him
- Aeneas wakes to find troy on fire
- he shows bravery leading Trojans into battle
- Venus helps him
- He returns and Ascarnius’ hair is set on fire
- They leave
- He returns to look for Creusa but finds her ghost who tells him to look for a foreign bride in Italy.

- Dido and Aeneas spend time in a cave together when caught in a storm hunting
- Jupiter sends Mercury to remind Aeneas of his fate and to leave
- Aeneas makes his preparations and is confronted by Dido
- Aeneas leaves and Dido commits suicide.

- she then acts as his guide on the journey to the underworld.
- They pass through places of darkness and Tartarus
- In Elysium Aeneas meets Anchises who explains the reincarnation of souls and shows him the future roman race.

- Ascarnius kills a pet stag after being tricked by Juno and fighting breaks out.

- He finds Evander celebrating the story of Hercules and Cacus
- Evander shows Aeneas around the kingdom, the future site of Rome.
- Venus persuades Vulcan to make Aeneas armour as he left his with Dido
- Elaborate shield.

- The Rutulians led by Turnus besiege the Trojan camp
- At night Nissus and Euryalus go on a mission to warn Aeneas but get distracted by spoils and are killed
- their heads are put on stakes and Trunus enters the camp killing many

- in a council of the gods, Zeus withdraws from action leaving it to the fates.
- Aeneas returns from Pallentium with substantial forces
- in the fighting Pallas is killed by Turnus
- Aeneas acts savagely, killing Lausus and Mezentius

- Latins hold a council to debate whether the war should continue
- fighting is restarted with Trojans lining up for battle.
- Camilla distinguishes herself in battle

- A truce is made but is broken by Juno talking to Latins
- Jupiter forbids Juno from interfering further and tells her Latins will keep their culture
- Aeneas and Turnus meet in combat and Turnus is killed.
