Aerobic and Anaerobic Excercise Flashcards

(8 cards)

1
Q

Aerobic Excercise

A

glucose +oxygen->energy + carbon dioxide+water
* involves performer using oxygen to breakdown foods such as glucose
* occurs at low to moderate levels of exertion when energy can be produced using oxygen

Q

Anaerobic Excercise

A

Glucose->Energy+Lactic acid
* No oxygen is used which mean sthat glucose is not fully broken down to carbon dioxide and water and instead converted to lactic acid.
* involve high intensity actions that can only be continued for a short period of time

Q

EPOC

A

Excess Post-Excercise Oxygen Consumption
* When strenuous excercise stops, performer keeps breathing heavily as body takes in extra oxygen to repay oxygen debt.
* During recovery after anaerobic excercise, the body needs extra oxygen to remove lactic acid. the duration of epoc depends on how much lactic acid was produced.

Q

Immediate Effects of excercise (during excercise)

A
  1. heart begins to beat faster and contracts more powerfully depending on how hard the excercise is to increase the stroke volume
  2. the breathing rate increases and so does the tidal volume and depth of breathing. This allows greater gaseous exchange at the lungs.
  3. Body temperature increases because muscles contracting more often generates heat. Body begins to sweat to lose heat by evapouration of sweat off the skin’s surface. The skin also goes red as blood vessels near skin’s surface try to lose heat by radiation.

Q

Short-term effects of excercise

A
  1. dizziness or lightheadedness which is caused by low blood sugar or a drop in blood pressure especially if the performer has sweated heavily
  2. nausea is the feeling of sickness or vomitingcaused by lack of water or excercise ending too abruptly
  3. DOMS is pain and stiffness felt in muscles caused by eccentric muscle contractions

Q

Recovery Process from vigorous excercise

A
  1. Cool down consisting of 5 -10 minutes of walking or jogging to help decrease body temperature and remove waste products which is then followedstatic stretches to help muscles relax
  2. Rehydration is the process of replacing the fluids that are lost during excercise. It is also important to consume glucose to make up for when it was used up in respiration
  3. ice baths constrict blood vessels and flush waste products out of the affected muscles and reduce swelling
  4. Massage can prevent or relive soreness or DOMS

Q

Benefit of Appropriate cool down

A
  • aids in the clearing of waste products
  • reduces potential for doms
  • reduces chance of dizziness
  • allows breathing and heart rate to slowly return to their resting rate

Q

Long term effects of excercise

A
  1. reduces weight of body as body uses up glucose from fat stores to convert into energy
  2. size of muscles will increase (hypertrophy)
Component of itness will be developed
muscles tendons and ligament will become stonger and more stable
  3. bradycardia when there is a reduction of heart rate when the dardiac output stays the same but the stroke volume increase
