Q

describe immediate energy demands

A
  • needed for 0-12 seconds
  • ATP stores in the body are used
  • ATP only lasts 3 seconds before it needs to be resynthesised
  • creatine phosphate is broken down to re-make ATP for up to 10 seconds
  • used for activities like javelin or 100m sprint

Q

describe lactic acid energy system

A
  • during 10 seconds and 3 minutes of exercise if body still needs energy it uses lactic acid energy system
  • this breaks down glycogen into glucose and pyruvic acid
  • without oxygen this is converted into lactic acid
