What is materialism?
Doesn’t accept that there is a separate part of the human called the soul.
A person is a living body and nothing more.
Death is when the body dies and personal identity ceases to exist.

A person is nothing more than a brain attached to a body with a nervous system.
What do hard materialists believe?
Concisouncess is nothing more than brain activity
What does Dawkins say about consciousness?
Has been developed through evolution
What is epiphenomenalism?
Challenges the idea that consciousness is evidence for an immaterial and immoral soul- mental events are caused by physical events in the brain.
What does Huxley argue in regards to epiphnomenlism?
Consciousness is itself the cause of change in motion of the matter of the organism

Stepthen T Davis- the criteria that can be used for identifying and reidenifying persons.
What is memory criterion?
Having the same mind such as memories and personality traits
What is bodily criterion?
That they have the same body.
