U65s make up 16% of the population but only 5% claimed to be no religon

1. The ageing effect - increasijg concern of afterlife
2. The generational effect - having experienced events such as the word wars they turned to religon for security and stability
Explanaition for decline in religous belief
- Breierly - church is boring: 87% of 13-14 yr olds claimed rch is old fashioned and boring
- Collins-Mayo - Growing individualism: there is greater personal choice in modern soctiety therefore people control their life and are choosing not to attend church, there is less social stigma around being religious
Why is bias an issue when investigating age and religon
If a researcher looks at the ageing process as a process of decline they will interpret the negative consequences overlooking the potential benefits of growing older
Why is intersectionality and issue when looking at age and religon
Factors such as age, gender race and social class all interact with eachother so it cannot be determined which one is causing a trend
