Aims and Hypothesis Flashcards
(8 cards)
Aim (1)
General statement of what the researcher intends to investigate, the purpose of the study.
How to write an aim?
Begin with ‘To investigate…’
Hypothesis (1)
A specific, testable statement in which the researcher predicts what will happen between the variables
Directional hypothesis (2)
- Predicts the direction that they think results will go in
- Difference they expect to find between two variables
Writing frame for directional hypothesis?
There will be a significantly higher (operationalised DV) for the participants in (operationalised IV) then participants in (operationalised IV)
Non-directional hypothesis (2)
- Does not predict the direction they think the results will go in
- There will be a difference
Writing frame for non-directional hypothesis?
There will be a significant difference in (operationalised DV) in participants with (operationalised IV) compared to the participants in (operationalised IV)
Null hypothesis (2)
- Due to chance and not IV
- No significant difference
