Q

What is HOT AIR pb ?

A

To optimize temperature control, hot air is tapped upstream of the pack (to respond to quick demand). ACSC1 regulates this valve.

Q

When does HOT AIR pressure valve closes ?

A

It closes automatically if :
- Both lanes ACSC1 or ACSC2 fail
- Duct overheat (T°>88°C)
- At least two trim air valves fail

Q

What is the condenser ?

A

Cold air from the turbine decreases to less than its dewpoint.
Water in the air condenses

Q

What is the water extractor ?

A

It removes the condensed water. Temperature is limited to +2°C to +70°C in the water extractor to prevent freezing

15
Q

What is the purpose of emergency RAM air ?

A

It ventilates the cockpit and cabin to remove smoke, or if both pack fail. It is controlled by the RAM air pb.

16
Q

What happens when RAM air pb is ON ?

A

It sends signal to CPC, which commands the opening of air inlet flap.
Outflow valve opens to 50% with p < 1PSI under automatic control. This forces the air into the mixing unit for distribution.

17
Q

Does the outflow valve open under manual control when RAM air pb is ON ?

A

No. Outflow valve must be opened by using the manual control on the overhead panel.

18
Q

What happens if p > 1PSI when RAM air pb is ON ?

A

Nothing. A check valve will not open, even if the pb is ON. No airflow will be supplied.

19
Q

What is the Mixer Unit ?

A

The unit mixes fresh cold air from the packs with recirculated cabin air through the recirculation fans. The unit is also connected to emergency RAM air and the low pressure ground inlets.

20
Q

What is the ACSC ?

A

It regulates the temperature of its associated pack, by modulating the bypass valve and the RAM air inlet flap.

21
Q

When does the ram air inlep flap opens - closes ?

A

It closes during take-off when thrust are at FLX/TOGA, and during landing when LDG is compressed.
It opens again 20 secondes after speed drops below 70kt.

22
Q

How many lanes does have the ACSC ?

A

Two lanes. If one fails, the other one takes over.
If both fail, the related pack is lost and hot air regulation valves closes.

23
Q

What is the Air Cycle Machine ?

A

The ACM is made of a compressor, a turbine and a cooling fan mounted on a rotating shaft.

24
Q

What happens in case of the ACM failure ?

A

The affected pack may be operated in heat exchanger cooling mode.
Warm air from the engine goes to the primary heat exchanger. The main part of the cooled air goes directly downstream of the ACM via the bypass valve and the rest goes through the failed ACM.

It reduces the pack flow. Hot air is lower then in normal operation, as pack flow is reduced.

25
Q

At what temperature is an overheat triggered for the PACK OUTLET temperature ?

A

at or above 90°C

26
Q

At what temperature is an overheat triggered for the PACK COMPRESSOR OUTLET temperature ?

A

at or above 260°C

27
Q

At what temperature is an overheat triggered for the ZONE DUCT temperature ?

A

When temperatures (cockpit + cabin) are above 80°C
