Category A
Approved for all operations and can be nominated as a Destination, Alternate, Adequate or Emergency airport
Category B
Approved for all operations and can be nominated as a Destination, Alternate, Adequate or Emergency airport unless notated in the RMS
Category C
Cannot be classified as a Cat A or B airport but is req’d for flight planning purposes.
Cannot be planned as a Destination or Alternate airport but is approved for use as an Adequate or Emergency airport.
Flight crew are not to divert to a Cat C airport for inflight medical emergencies.
Emergency Airport
An Emergency airport is an airport which maybe used in an aircraft emergency only.
Cannot be planned as Destination, Alternate or Adequate airport.
Adequate Airport
Cat A B C airport at which the aircraft landing distance performance requirements at the expected landing weight can be met.
Suitable Airport
Cat A or B
Does not require an alternate during period of intended use.
For which appropriate holding fuel is carried i.e weather, navaid availability.
Acceptable Airport
Cat A B C or Emergency airport at the time of dep
Is forecast to be above landing minima for the period of intended use.
Has appropriate holding fuel included due to WX, navaid availability.
Available Airport
An airport which in the judgement of the Captain is appropriate for landing in terms of WX, airport conditions and runway length at the time of intended landing.
