what happens after you drink an alcohol
ethanol is absorbed into the blood from the gut and easily passes into the body tissues
how does alcohol affect the nervous system
making thought processes, reflexes and many reactions slower than normal
what is cirrhosis of the liver
a disease that destroyed the liver tissues and active liver cells are replaced with scar tissues that cannot carry out vital functions
is alcohol a carcinogen
alcohol is a carcinogen so heavy drinkers are at an increases risk of developing liver cancer
what happens to the brain due to alcohol
brain becomes soft and pulpy and brain can no longer function properly
what is fatal alcohol syndrome
facial deformities or hearing kidney liver and heart problems and may have learning disabilities
how does alcohol in pregnancy affect the child
- alcohol passes across the placenta into the developing baby
- miscarriage stillbirths and premature births and low birthweight are all risks
how does ionising radiation cause cancer
- causes mutations to dna
- more likely that when you are exposed to radiation, more likely that mutations will occur and cancer will develop
- eg UV light, radioactive materials, medical and dental x-rays
