What is a pattern or tul
A pattern is a set of fundamental movements, most of which represent an attack or defence against an imaginary opponent set to a fixed or logical sequence.
How many patterns are the in Taekwon-do and why
The are 24 patterns because: The life of a human being, perhaps 100 years, can be considered as a day when compared to eternity. Therefore we mortals are no more than simple travellers who pass by the eternally years of an eon in a day.
What is the diagram of a pattern
The diagram can be laid out on the floor as a directional map. A pattern should finish and start on the same spot.

9th Kup Pattern and Meaning (White Yellow tag -> Yellow Belt)
Chon Ji : literally means ‘The Heaven, The Earth’ and is the orient interpreted as the beginning of the world and the creation of human history. Therefore it is the initial pattern played by the beginning student.
It has two similar parts, one to represent the heaven and the other to represent the earth.
8th Kup Pattern and Meaning (Yellow Belt -> Green Tag)
Dan Gun : is named after the Holy Dan Gun, the legendary founder of Korea in the year 2333 BC.
7th Kup Pattern and Meaning (Yellow Green tag -> Green Belt)
Do San : is the pseudonym of the patriot Ahn Chang Ho(1876-1938). The 24 movement presents his entire life which he dedicated to furthering the education of Korea and its independence movement.
6th Kup Pattern and Meaning (Green Belt ->Blue Tag)
Won Hyo : is named after the both monk Won Hyo who introduced Buddhism to the Silla Dynasty in the year 686 AD
