A

Ans - The 2 types of allergens are food allergens and non food allergens.
Food items that cause allergy is called as food allergen.
Ex : Milk, fish, peanut, nuts, egg, shellfish, wheat and its derivatives etc.
Allergens other than food are called non food allergens.
Ex : Pet hair, Dust, wasp sting, mites, medicines containing sulphur or penicillin, pollen grains, perfumes, cosmetics, paints, change of season etc.

  1. Explain in detail the entry routes of allergens.
A

Ans - There are 3 entry routes for allergens

  • The nose : Allergens in the air enter through our nose. The allergens causing asthma and hay fever enter through our nose.
  • The mouth : Food allergens enter through our mouth and cause symptoms like swelling and itching of tongue, lips, pharynx and sometimes throat. These symptoms are called oral allergy.
  • The Skin : Allergens when come in contact with skin cause redness and blistering on the skin. These symptoms are called contact dermatitis
