What are the intraperitoneal organs of the upper abdomen?
Stomach, liver, gall bladder, spleen, pancreas (tail only), bulb of the duodenum, hepatic flexure of the colon, parts of the transverse and descending colon, and cecum. (Cecum can also be classified as retroperitoneal)
What are the intraperitoneal organs of the lower abdomen?
Cecum, appendix, ileum, jejunum, ascending colon, sigmoid colon, and rectum. ovaries, fallopian tubes, bladder, distal ureters, and uterus
What are the extraperitoneal (retroperitoneal) organs of the upper abdomen?
Kidneys, proximal ureters, adrenal glands, lower esophagus, and body of the pancreas.
What are the extraperitoneal (retroperitoneal) organs of the lower abdomen?
Lower 2/3 of the ureters, duodenum (except the proximal first segment), ascending and descending colon, body of the pancreas
