Anatomy of Cell Flashcards
(23 cards)
All animal cells have
Nucleus, plasma membrane & cytoplasm
Chromatin
When cell is not dividing, the genetic material is loosely dispersed throughout nucleus in a threadlike form
Chromosomes
When the cell is in the process of dividing to from daughter cells, the chromatin coils & condenses forming rod like bodies
Nucleoli
Composed of proteins & ribonucleic acid (RNA)
Ribosomes
Composed of RNA & protein; floating free or attached to a membranous structure ( rough ER) in the cytoplasm
Rough ER
Studded w/ ribosomes; tubules of the rough ER provide an area for storage & transport of the proteins made on the the ribosomes of other cell areas
Smooth ER
Is a site of steroid & lipid synthesis, lipid metabolism & drug detoxification
Nucleus
Where ribosomes are madero
Contains genetic material & DNA
Golgi Apparatus
Packing proteins or other substances fro export from the cell or incorporation into the plasma membrane & in packaging lysosomal enzymes
( where protein get shipped/package/modified)
Lysosomes
Function to digest worn-out cell organelles & foreign substances that enter cell
( breaking stuff down)
Peroxisomes
Containing oxidase enzymes that detoxify alcohol, free radicals & other harmful chemicals
Mitochondria
Produce cellular energy (ATP)
Centrioles
Direct the information of the mitotic spindle during cell division
Transport Vesicle
Transport proteins/ carbohydrates & molecule
Cytoskeletal
Provide cellular support; function in intracellular transport
Microfilaments
Cell mobility
Intermediate Filaments
Resist mechanical forces acting on cells
Microtubules
Form the internal structure of the centrioles & help determine cell shape
Microvilli
Increase the surface area of the cell available for absorption or passage and for the binding of signaling molecules
Nuclear Envelope
The nucleus is bound by a double-layered porous membrane
Nuclear Pore
They are spanned by protein complexes that regulate what passes through & they permit easy passage of protein & RNA molecules
Plasma Membrane
Separates cell contents from the surrounding environment, providing a protective barrier
Cytosol
The fluid cytoplasmic material
