Anatomy Of The Sacrum Mod 2 Day 1.3 Flashcards
(15 cards)
How do you palpate the PSIS?
By placing 3 fingers over the PSIS and palpate the inferior edge, middle edge and bottom.
What is another condition that can mimic sciatica or piriformis syndrome?
Middle cluneal nerve entrapment.
What are the 3 posterior sacral ligaments?
Sacrotuberous ligament, sacrospinous ligament, and the iliolumbar ligament.
What does the sacrotuberous ligament attach to?
Secures the sacrum to the ischial tuberosity.
Where is the sacrospinous ligament located?
Deep to the sacrotuberous ligament.
What does the sacrospinous ligament attach to?
It Anchors the sacrum to the ischium via the ischial spine.
What does the iliolumbar sacrum ligament do?
It stabilizes the upper sacrum to the L5 vertebra and iliac crest.
How do you locate BL 35?
Find DU2 and move 1 cup lateral.
How do you locate DU2?
On the midline in the sacro-coccygeal hiatus. At the top of butt crack.
What does Form Closure refer to?
It is how a joint’s shape and ligaments contribute to its stability.
What is an example of form closure?
the SI joint locking with with the weight-bearing leg during gait.
What is Force Closure?
Contraction of the stabilizing myofascial tissues that help increase joint stability.
When does Force Closure occur?
What is sacral nutation?
The top of the sacrum moves anteriorly to compensate for a posterior pelvic tilt.
What is sacral counternutation?
The top of the sacrum moves posteriorly to compensate for an anterior pelvic tilt.
