Anatomy - Spinal Nerves Flashcards
How would you know if a pathology was affecting either anterior or posterior ramus?
Anterior rami supply anterolateral body wall
Posterior rami supply posterior body wall
How would you know if a pathology was affecting either the anterior or posterior root?
Anterior - motor
Posterior - sensory
Name the spinal nerve root levels of the femoral nerve
L2, L3, L4
How many true dermatomes does the area of cutaneous innervation of the femoral nerve cross?
3 - L2, L3, L4
What is the peripheral cutaneous innervation of the neck anterolaterally? Name the nerves and their roots.
Lesser occipital nerve (C2)
Great auricular nerve (C2,3)
Transvere cervical nerve (C2,3)
Supraclavicular nerves (C3,4)
What is the peripheral cutaneous innervation of the neck posteriorly? Name the nerves and their roots.
Mainly the posterior rami of spinal nerves - C2-C8
What is the nerve point of the neck?
Just above midpoint of posterior border of SCM
Where sensory nerves of cervical plexus start (which cutaneously innervate anterolateral neck)
What is the only spinal nerve contributing to facial sensation?
Great auricular nerve (C2,3)
Describe the peripheral cutaneous innervation of the upper trunk wall.
Same as dermatomal pattern
Upper anterolateral trunk wall: intercostal nerves
At T12 - subcostal nerve (ant tamus of T12)
Describe the peripheral cutaneous innervation of the lower trunk wall.
L1 bifurcates –> iliohypogastric and ilioinguinal nerves
What is the cutaneous innervation of the back?
POsterior rami
Name the nerve and its roots that supplies the green area.
lateral cutaneous nerve of the thigh (L2,3)
Name the nerve and its roots that supplies the purple area.
saphenous nerve (from femoral: L3,4)
Name the nerve and its roots that supplies the yellow area.
superficial fibular nerve (L4,L5,S1)
Name the nerve and its roots that supplies the v light green area.
Obturator nerve (L2,3,4)
