Landforms & Geographic
A landform is a feature on Earth’s surface that is part of the terrain. Mountains, hills, plateaus, and plains are the four major types of landforms.
feature
the feature is a distinctive trait or a special attraction. The feature can also mean giving special attention to something. The word feature has several other senses as a noun and a verb. A feature is a unique quality or characteristic that something has.
penisula
A peninsula is a piece of land that is almost entirely surrounded by water but is connected to the mainland on one side. Peninsulas can be very small, sometimes only large enough for a single lighthouse, for instance.
mountains

They usually have steep, sloping sides and sharp or rounded ridges, and a high point called a peak or summit. Most geologists classify a mountain as a landform that rises at least 1,000 feet (300 meters) or more above its surrounding area.
islands
Alonissos: The name derives from the ancient Greek word “als” (sea) and the word “nisi” (island). It literally means an island in the middle of the sea.
Polis/city-state
A city-state, or polis, was the community structure of ancient Greece. Each city-state was organized with an urban center and the surrounding countryside. Characteristics of the city in a polis were outer walls for protection, as well as a public space that included temples and government buildings.
acropolis
“high city” in Greek and can refer to one of many natural strongholds constructed on rocky, elevated ground in Greece, but the Acropolis of Athens is the best known
agora
agora, in ancient Greek cities, an open space that served as a meeting ground for various activities of the citizens. The name, first found in the works of Homer, connotes both the assembly of the people as well as the physical setting.

A Greek Citizen is a person who is duly registered in the Records of a Municipality of the Hellenic Republic. 3. Registration in the Municipal Records of the Hellenic Republic is the legal premise for Greek Citizenship. As such, the Certificate of Registration constitutes legal proof of Greek Citizenship
Direct Democracy
Direct democracy or pure democracy is a form of democracy in which the electorate decides on policy initiatives without elected representatives as proxies. This differs from the majority of currently established democracies, which are representative democracies.
Assembly
A popular assembly (or people’s assembly) is a gathering called to address issues of importance to participants. Assemblies tend to be freely open to participation and operate by direct democracy.
Council
Greek Council is the joint governing body of the social greek organizations. Inter-Fraternity Council is the governing body of social fraternities and Panhellenic Council is the governing body of social sororities.

rather than relying entirely on elections, the Athenians of the 6th century B.C. selected most of their government officials through a system of random allotment, or “sortition.” Eligible candidates—usually free men over the age of 18—would have their names placed in a lottery.
