Animal and plant cells Flashcards
(11 cards)
What is the function of the cytoplasm?
A jelly like material in which most of the chemical reactions needed for life take place .
What does the nucleus contain and what is its role?
It contains genetic material, including DNA, which controls cells activites
What is the role of the cell membrane?
The cell membrane controls the movement of substances in and out of the cell.
What is the function of the ribosomes?
The site for protein synthesis
What is the function of mitrochondria?
Where aerobic repiration takes place , releasing energy for the cell.
What are the three additional structures that the plant cell has?
The cell wall , permanent vacuole and chloroplasts
What is the cell wall made of,and what does it do?
The cell wall is made up of cellulose , which strengthens the plant cell and gives it support.
What pigment do chloroplast contain and what is its role?
They contain chlorophyll which absorbs light so the plant can make food by photosynthesis.
What does the permanent vacuole contain and what is its function?
The permanent vacule cotains cell sap which keeps the cell rigid to support the plant,
Which cell structure is only visible with an electron microscope?
Ribosomes
Which cell structure is visible under a light microscope but not in detail?
Mitrochondria
