-Gila monster -Mexican bearded lizard
26
What percentage of people have life-threatening problems w/insect stings
.4 to .8% of children 3% of adults have life-threatening allergic reactions to Hymenoptera venom
27
What is it called when someone has a severe reaction to insect stings and goes into shock?
Anaphylactic shock
28
About how many bee stings does it take to kill a human NOT allergic to bees
500 stings
29
What area is the worst to be stung?
Mouth or eye
30
Explain some signs of stings that are usual, worrisome, and life-threatening?
Usual - Instant pain, redness, and itching. Worrisome - Hives, swollen lips or tongue, tickle in throat, and wheezing Life - threatening - Blue/gray color skin, seizures, unresponsiveness, and inability to breathe.
31
What is the 1st aid for an insect sting?
-Remove stinger and venom sac -scrape it out with a straight-edged object, like a credit card or the back of a knife, as quickly as possible -Wash w/ soap/water -Apply an ice pack -Give pain medication -Apply hydrocortisone cream and give antihistamine
32
What is antihistamine?
Antihistamines are medications that treat allergy symptoms by blocking the effects of histamine, a substance produced by the body when it detects something harmful
33
Signs of a Black Widow bite
-Sharp brick sensation followed by dull, numbing pain -Two small fang marks -Severe abdominal pain -Headache -Chills -Fever -Heavy sweating -Nausea -Vomiting
34
1st aid for a Black Widow bite
-Clean w/ soap/water -Apply an ice pack -Apply antibiotic ointment and a sterile dressing. -Give pain medication -Keep the area still(DO NOT put lower extremities above heart level) -Seek medical care as soon as possible calling 9-1-1 than poison control (1-800-222-1222) for further guidance
35
Are black widows poisonous?
YES
36
What is Anaphylaxis?
a severe, life-threatening allergic reaction that can occur within minutes of exposure to an allergen Anaphylaxis occurs when the immune system releases chemicals that cause the body to go into shock
37
Symptoms of Anaphylaxis
-Difficulty breathing -Swelling of the lips, tongue, throat, or eyes -Itchy skin or a raised, red rash -Lightheadedness or fainting -Wheezing -Abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting -Rapid heart beat -Confusion -Bluish skin (cyanosis)

What are some signs of a brown recluse bite
-Mild to severe pain that occurs within 2-8 hours -Blister that develops within 48 to 72 hours --Becomes red and bursts -Takes on a bulls eye appearance -Nausea -Vomiting -Headache -Fever
39
1st aid of a brown recluse bite
-Clean w/ soap/water -Apply an ice pack -Give pain medication -Keep the area still(DO NOT put lower extremities above heart level) -Seek medical care as soon as possible calling 9-1-1 than poison control (1-800-222-1222) for further guidance
40
Describe what the different spiders look like (Black Widow, Brown recluse, and a Tarantula)

Tarantula - Usually black or brown and very hairy. Has 8 eyes - 2 in the middle and 3 on each side of the face.
41
1st aid for a Tarantula bite
-Clean w/ soap/water -Apply an ice pack -Apply antibiotic ointment and a sterile dressing -Give pain medication -Keep the area still(DO NOT put lower extremities above heart level) -Seek medical care as soon as possible calling 9-1-1 than poison control (1-800-222-1222) for further guidance For hairs in the skin - -Remove w/ sticky tape -Wash w/ soap/water -Apply hydrocortisone cream
