Animal Systems Flashcards
(28 cards)
4 main tissues in animals?
Connective, epethilial, nerve & muscle
Hierarchy of animals in order?
Cells, tissues, organs, organ systems.
what are epethilial tissues?
Sheet of tightly packed cells that cover body surfaces and lines internal organs.
What is the connective tissue?
Tissue that provides support and protection for various parts of the body
What is the muscle tissue?
Tissue that contract enabling the body to move.
What are nerve tissues?
Conduct electrical signals from 1 part of the body to another
Function of epethilial tissue?
Protection
Function of connective tissue?
Support.
Function of nerve tissue?
Acts as a sensory input.
What is a stem cell?
a cell that can become any specialized cell.
What is a tissue stem cell?
A cell that can only differenciate to certain types of cells.
Function of digestive system?
Takes in and breaks up + digests food & excretes waste.
How is the saliva produced?
From epithelial tissue.
Accessory organs for the digestive system?
Gall bladder, liver and pancreas
Function of circulatory system?
Transports oxygen and other nutrients throughout the body. Also carries away waste.
blood pumps from the heart into what&what?
arteries and then the capillaries.
What carries blood away from
the heart?
Arteries.
What carries blood to the heart?
Veins.
Arteries and veins are linked together by?
Capillaries.
What is coronary disease?
When the coronary arteries are blocked by plaque (made of fat & other substances.)
What causes heart attacks?
Blockage of coronary arteries for a long period of time
Main function of the respiratory system?
System that provides oxygen for the body and allows carbon dioxide to leave the body.
What delivers air into lungs?
Bronchi.
How does oxygen enter the bloodstream?
Diffusion.
