Q

Anesthesia

A

Isoflurane, it inhibits response to reflexes in all sorts of animals at comparable dosage

The higher functions seem togo first (memory goes first, than last the more reflexive things)

Q

Fly experiment

A

Checked for power spectrum and coherence in the brain

Gave granger causality (enables assessment of thedirection of neural flow. Does the brain of the fly have FF and FB processing

Awake condition
- Stronger in lower frequencies (FB)
- FF causality stronger in higher freqs

Anesthesia causes lower feedback, ff way less, like in animals/humans

Q

plants

A

Some have nervous systems

  • React to stimuli
  • Can be anesthesized
  • Some functions are more responsive to it than others

Q

Translated to theories

A

GNWT; Cognitive manipulation is possible in GW, making consciousness
- Desert ants go back in a straight line, meaning it stored the information of the route it took (home vector)

HOTT; metacogntiion is higher order thoughts
- Bees learn to associate target below w punishment above reward. The rule transfers to other targets and they opt out when its too difficult (metacognitive)
- Pea plants show risk sensitivity

Q

Functionalist explanation

A

High level cognitive functions are explained through models, but the biological explanation of a single cell is itself already so complex, that all cognitive aspects already exist within that 1 cell. So is it really that weird that single cells could have consciousness
