However, they have great difficulty making ordinary choices

Generalised and automatic value system

A

Experiment:
- Shown faces/houses/painting
- Have to guess age
- Than have to judge in liking
- Than binary choice

It’s generalized bc it doesn’t prefer certain type
Automatic bc it’s also active when you’re judging the age. Seeing an object activates the VALUE system.

Reward system

A

VTA, Nacc to PFC. Classical conditioning/operant conditioning

Reward response starts to shift to the cue, doesn’t come at the place of reward anymore

your brain is always trying to predict rewards, so it’‘ll only fire at the cue.

= reward prediction error
