Animals Practical I Flashcards
(63 cards)
What are the three germ layers?
Ectoderm, mesoderm, and endoderm
Which phylum is acoelemate?
Platyhelminthes
Which phylum has pseudocoelemate body cavities?
Nematoda
What kind of digestive tract do nematode have?
Complete, with mouth and anus
Which gender of nematode has a hooked tail?
Male
Path of food in nematoda
Mouth, pharynx, intestine, anus
How does respiration work in nematoda?
Simple diffusion
Female nematode genital pore is connected to a?
Short vagina
Nematode vagina opens to?
Two uteri, which contain an oviduct, and finally, ovaries at the end
Function of copulatory spicule?
Holds genital pore of female open during sex
Function of cloaca?
Collection of waste products and sperm
Thick reproductive tubes in nematoda?
Sperm ducts/vas deferens
Thin reproductive tubes in nematoda?
Testes
Mesodermal epithelium lining body cavities of annelids
Peritoneum
Setae
Small, bristle-like appendages, used for locomotion and gas exchange
What is the clitellum?
Swelling on dorsal surface, provides mucus sheath around reproducing worm, makes cocoon in which fertilized eggs are deposited.
Order of annelid digestive system
Pharynx, esophagus, crop, gizzard, intestine, anus
Function of crop in annelida
Storage stomach
Function of gizzard in annelida
Grinds and churns soil
Where is typhlosole and what is its function?
Found on dorsal surface of intestine, groove, increases SA for absorption
Function of nephridia
Removes fluid and wastes from both tissue fluids and blood
Process of gas exchange in nephridia
Cilia drives fluids into nephrostome from coelom and then through tubule. Gas exchange happens in capillaries around tubules. Tubules leads to bladder, fluid exits body through nephridiopore.
Internal transports in annelids performed by?
Coelomic fluid
_______ circ system in annelids
Closed
