Q

Broadcast Address

A

Last available IP address in the network range. This address is used to send traffic to all of the devices in the network

1
Q

Network Address

A

First availabale IP address in the network range. This address is used to represent the network range and the network as a whole. Also known as the network ID

2
Q

Host Address

A

Rest of the IP addresses that fall between the network and the broadcast ID. These are the usable IP addresses that you can assign to devices within the network

3
Q

Public Address

A

Designated for use in networks that are accessible on the internet. This means that routers will route these outside of your internal network

4
Q

Private Address

A

IP addresses that are designated for use within a private network and must rely on the NAT, to be routable on the internet. Therefore, they do not need to be globally unique

5
Q

Unicast

A

P2P comm from one host to another over the network.

6
Q

Broadcast

A

Sends IP traffic to the broadcast IP address, all of the computers and network devices on that IP network wil receive the broadcast. One to many

7
Q

Multicast

A

When a host sends out a data stream that multiple host can receive. Hosts that receive that data are called multi cast clients, and they subscribe to a multicast group. Multicasting prevents computers from being overwhelmed by connections and also saves bandwidth.

8
Q

Purpose of a Ping

A

Used to test whether or not a path through the network exists to a destination network or computer

9
Q

Network Address Translation (NAT)

A

Changes the private space addresses in the IPv4 packet header to a public space address.

10
Q

Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6)

A

Has 8 fields of 4 hexadecimal numbers per field. Larger address space, simpler header which leads to faster and more efficient routing, and built in security.
