ANS System- Sympathetic NS Flashcards
(16 cards)
Pre Synaptic hormone used both in sympathetic and parasympathetic
ACh- Acetylcholine
Post synaptic/primary hormones used in Sympatheric NS
Epinepherine and Norepinepherine
Post Synaptic/primary hormone used in Parasympathetic
Acetylcholine
adrenergic aka
Sympathetic
fight or flight reactions are from the
sympathetic nervous system
Receptors in Sympathetic NS
Alpha (primarily in blood vessels, smooth muscle)
Beta 1 (heart)
Beta 2 (lungs and peripheral vascular)
Alpha agonists typically end in
“-rine”
Alpha antagonists typically
“-osin”
Beta agonists typically end in
“-ol”
Beta blockers typically end in
“-olol”
These indications would be treated with
Acute Cardiac Arrest
Hypotension
Shock
Anaphylaxis
Allergy/Respiratory
-Adrenergic Agonists/ sympathomimetics
These indications would be treated with
Hypertension
BPH
Alpha adrenergic blockers
These indications would be treated with
HTN
Angina
Heart Failure
Arhthymia
Glaucome
Beta blockers
Nursing Considerations when dealing with Sympathetic agonists & blockers
-Pt PMH/ current diagnosis
-Pt allergy
-Checking heart rate and BP prior to administering
Prior to given beta blockers, heart rate should be ____
Greater than 60 BPM
Contraindications for sympathetic agonists include
-Hypertension
-Vascular Disease
-Pheochromocytoma(as it can cause catecholamine overload)
-Glaucoma
-Pregnancy/Lactation
