Q

Panel Write-Up Steps

A
  1. List the antibody specificities that could not be ruled out
  2. List the antibodies that are not likely because they are very rare
  3. List the antibodies that are not likely because of their phase of reactivity
  4. What is the most likely antibody
  5. List the selected cells that would need to be tested in order to rule out the remaining antibodies

Q

Enzyme Treatment

A

Enzymes destroy some antigens: Fya, Fyb, Xga, M, N, S, s
Enzymes enhance some blood groups: Kidd, Rh, Lewis, P, Ii
Used when patient has multiple antibodies
Must observe reactivity of the same panel cells with both enzyme treted and untreated reactions and then compare results

Q

Antibody Adsorption

A

Removal of antibody from patient serum by mixing red cells with corresponding antigen
Used for separation of multiple antibodies and removal of auto-antibodies to detect allo-antibodies

Q

Antibody Elution

A

Removal of antibody from RBC membrane
Application includes positive DAT, HDFN, transfusion reaction, and autoimmune disease
ID antibodies coating red cells in each of the conditions
