  • Direct

MOA

  • Binds to muscarinic receptors -> prevent ACh from binding/activating -> ↓parasympathetic effect

Indications

  • Cholinergic (anticholinesterase) toxicity
  • Bradycardia
  • Opthamalic examinations

Therapeutic Effects

↑Sympathetic actions:
* ↑ heart rate
* Dilates pupils

Side Effects

  • Tachycardia
  • Blurred vision
  • ↑intraocular pressure
  • Constipation
  • Urinary retention

Contraindications

  • Glaucoma
  • BPH

↑Sympathetic actions:

  • Bronchodilation
  • Drying/decrease secretions
    -> Ex: Patient with peptic ulcer disease have ↑HCl -> give anticholinergic -> decrease acid secretion

  • Dry mouth
