Antifungals Flashcards
learn (13 cards)
Amphotericin B
binds to ergosterol and alters the permeability of the cell membrane.has a broad spectrum of activity.it is a polyene.Other polyenes are nystatin and natamycin. DOC for acute systemic mycosis
Flucytosine
MOA:it is taken up by cells via the enzyme cytosine permease .It is the converted to two compounds that inhibit DNA and RNA synthesis.it is active against C neoformans
AZOLES
can be classified into imidazoles and triazoles
imidazoles include
clotrimazole,ketoconazole and miconazole.
triazoles include
itraconazole,fluconazole,voriconazole and posaconazole.
MOA of azoles
reduce synthesis of ergosterol by inhibiting fungal CYP450 enzymes.
ECHINOCANDINS
capsofungin,micafungin and anidulafungin.
MOA
inhibit synthesis of beta 1-3 glucan resulting in the disruption of the fungal cell wall.
Allylamines
terbinafine and naftifine.
MOA o allylamines
inhibit ergosterol synthesis by blocking squalene epoxidase
Griseofulvin
inhibits microtubule action.Used in the treatment of superficial mycoses
thiocarbamates
tolnaftate.inhibits squalene epoxidase .
Amorolfine
inhibits ergosterol synthesis.
