Antigens And Phagocytosis Flashcards
(10 cards)
Self Cells
Antigens on your cells that recognises it as your own
Non Self Cells
Cells with different antigens then your own slef cells
Antigens
A protein found on the outside of cells, this can trigger an immune response.
Where are Phagocytes made?
In the bone marrow and they travel through the capillaries.
What two types of Phagocytes are there?
Neutrophils and Macrophages
Neutrophils
Engulf and digest phathogens
Macrophages
Make holes in bacteria or stick proteins to the outside of bacteria to make it more appealing for the Neutrophils to destroy
Chemotoxins
Migration of a cell by chemical stimulus
Antigens- definition
Cellular process of engulfing solid practicals using the cell membrane- carried out by phagocytes
What is the process of engulfing a pathogen?
- Pathogen is recognised as a foreign body
- Pathogen is engulfed by phagocytes
- Lysosomes fuse with phagosome to make phagolysomes
