Any fieldwork Flashcards
(21 cards)
What is a geographical enquiry?
Act of investigating geographical issue or question. Involves collecting data, using data and making conclusions.
What 3 things does data need to be?
Accurate, relatively large sample size and somewhat reliable.
What are the three types of sampling?
Random sampling, systematic sampling and stratified sampling.
What is random sampling?
Each member has an equal chance and use a random number generator.
What is systematic sampling?
Samples chosen in a regular way.
What is stratified sampling?
Used when the sample can be broken down into a sub-group. So you would ask the same number of each sub-group.
What is primary data?
Data collected by yourself.
What is secondary data?
Information that is used that someone has already collected and made available.
What are 5 types of presenting quantative data?
Pie charts, histograms, bar charts, pictograms and line graphs.
What are 2 types of presenting qualitative data?
Picture annotations and word clouds.
What is a geographical enquiry?
The act of investigating geographical data or a question. Involves collecting data, using data and concluding.
What are 3 things our investigation needs to cover?
Needs to be accurate so the measurement is taken correctly, a large enough sample size and reliable so the results are consistent.
What are the three main types of sampling strategy?
Systematic sampling, random sampling and stratified sampling.
What is random sampling?
Each member of population has equal chance of being chosen.
What is systematic sampling?
Samples are chosen in a regular way.
What is stratified sampling?
Used when the sample can be broken down into a sub group, so if you want to find opinions of 2 groups, you need equal numbers.
What is primary data?
Data you personally collected.
What is secondary data?
Information someone has previously collected and made available.
What are 5 examples of how quantative data can be presented?
Histograms, pictograms, bar charts, line graphs, pie diagrams
What are 2 examples of how qualitative data can be presented?
Through word clouds or annotated photos.
